چکیده

Motivated by multipath routing, we introduce a multi-connected variant of spanners. For that purpose we introduce the p-multipath cost between two nodes u and v as the minimum weight of a collection of p internally vertex-disjoint paths between u and v. Given a weighted graph G, a subgraph H is a p-multipath s-spanner if for all u, v, the p-multipath cost between u and v in H is at most s times the p-multipath cost in G. The s factor is called the stretch. Building upon recent results on fault-tolerant spanners, we show how to build p-multipath spanners of constant stretch and of Õ(n) edges, for fixed parameters p and k, n being the number of nodes of the graph. Such spanners can be constructed by a distributed algorithm running in O(k) rounds. Additionally, we give an improved construction for the case p = k = 2. Our spanner H has O(n) edges and the p-multipath cost in H between any two node is at most twice the corresponding one in G plus O(W ), W being the maximum edge weight.

Improved Purely Additive Fault - Tolerant

Let G be an unweighted n-node undirected graph. A βadditive spanner of G is a spanning subgraph H of G such that distances in H are stretched at most by an additive term β w.r.t. the corresponding distances in G. A natural research goal related with spanners is that of designing sparse spanners with low stretch. In this paper, we focus on fault-tolerant additive spanners, namely additive spanne...

Independent tree spanners: fault-tolerant spanning trees with constant distance guarantees

For any xed rational parameter t 1, a (tree) t{spanner of a graph G is a spanning subgraph (tree) T in G such that the distance between every pair of vertices in T is at most t times their distance in G. General t{spanners and their variants have multiple applications in the eld of communication networks, distributed systems, and network design. In this paper, we combine the two concepts of sim...

Efficient Construction of Spanners in $d$-Dimensions

In this paper we consider the problem of efficiently constructing k-vertex fault-tolerant geometric tspanners in R (for k ≥ 0 and t > 1). Vertex fault-tolerant spanners were introduced by Levcopoulus et. al in 1998. For k = 0, we present an O(n log n) method using the algebraic computation tree model to find a t-spanner with degree bound O(1) and weight O(ω(MST )). This resolves an open problem...

New Doubling Spanners: Better and Simpler

In a seminal STOC’95 paper, Arya et al. conjectured that spanners for low-dimensional Euclidean spaces with constant maximum degree, hop-diameter O(logn) and lightness O(logn) (i.e., weight O(logn)· w(MST)) can be constructed in O(n logn) time. This conjecture, which became a central open question in this area, was resolved in the affirmative by Elkin and Solomon in STOC’13 (even for doubling m...
